# About Palcity

> Palcity is a social platform designed to help you connect and make new friends in your local area.

**Palcity** is a free, location-based social platform where adults can meet new people and make friends with people near them. It runs in a web browser — there is nothing to install — and it is built around one idea: that meeting someone nearby should be simple, quick and safe, without a subscription standing between you and a conversation.

Palcity is a social platform designed to help you connect and make new friends in your local area.

You are placed on the map as soon as you arrive, using an approximate location worked out from your connection, so the people around you are visible immediately. From there you can browse or search — by distance, who is online, who has a photo — and message anyone directly. There is no swipe queue and no requirement that someone likes you back before you can talk to them. If you prefer the one-at-a-time format, Yes / No / Maybe is there too, and tells you when interest is mutual.

Conversations carry text, photos, files and voice clips, and every conversation can become a live voice or video call that runs directly in the browser. All of it is free.

There is no charge to join, to browse, to message or to call. There is no paid tier on Palcity at all.

Palcity uses no tracking cookies — none — which is why it shows no cookie banner. Other members never see your location, only a distance rounded to the nearest 5 kilometres, and they never see your age or your birthdate. You can make your profile public, keep it out of search, or hide it completely, and change your mind at any time.

Every photo uploaded is screened before it can appear publicly and may be reviewed by a moderator. An automated risk system looks for the behaviour patterns that scam and spam accounts share and hides them before they reach anyone. Any member can block or report any profile or message. Members can also [verify their account](https://pal.city/verification) and earn a badge that shows there is a real person behind the profile. Palcity is strictly for adults, 18 and over, with a [zero-tolerance policy](https://pal.city/child-safety) on child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Palcity is built and operated by [Intercode](https://intercode.info/), a small independent software company in Québec, Canada. It is independent of the large dating-app groups.
